FAQs

There is no such thing as a stupid question here at Scent of Heaven. If you're asking a question, we've most likely asked it first, so don't worry! Here are some of our most frequently asked questions, including tips on how to use our soy wax products.

Candles

What are the candles made from?

Our candles are made from 100% soy wax, which is plant-based, sustainable, and toxin-free. We also use phthalate, PEG, and silicone free colours and fragrance oils in our candle mixtures. This ensures that the quality of your soy candle is the best of the best!

What is the best way to care for my candle?

To keep your candle looking pretty, we recommend that these steps are followed:

1) Trim the wick to ½ a cm before lighting your candle. Do so before every (yes, every) lighting to keep it looking cute!

2) Allow the candle to burn to the edge of the jar each time you light it. This prevents tunnelling, which is soooo annoying!

3) Do not burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time

4) Keep your candles away from windows and draughts

These tips can also be found on the internal lid of your candle!

Why does my candle's colour look different from the one on the website?

As our products are designed by hand, and not machines, each candle’s top design will naturally vary. This means that no two candles are ever the same, which we think is super fun, because it mirrors how uniquely God made each of us!

Why does my candle look like it's sweating?

If you notice that your candle has developed some liquid beads or slight pooling at the top, there's no reason to worry! That's just one of the joys of using 100% soy wax! Due to soy wax being a plant-based, oily wax, this just means that it is more sensitive to temperature fluctuations. We didn't want to take shortcuts to remedy this (e.g: adding parrafin wax to our mixture), especially as this doesn't actually affect the quality of your candle.

You can combat this by dabbing the top of your candle with a tissue and moving your candle to a location that is less prone to temperature fluctuation.

Why does my candle look bumpy at the top after it's cooled down?

This is a feature of our candles being 100% soy-wax; a girly with a mind of her own at times! Bumpy or uneven tops occur when there are temperature fluctuations as your candle is cooling down, but don't worry, this doesn't affect the quality of your candle!

Why does my candle have a mushroom at the top of the wick?

This is caused by carbon build-up. It doesn't affect the quality of your candle, and is easily remedied by waiting till your candle has burned to the edge of your jar, gently snuffing it, and then trimming the wick (including the "mushroom") before burning it again. Avoid blowing your candle out with a sharp puff, as "mushroom" bits could fall into the wax.

Wax Melts

What are wax melts?

Wax melts are a cool way to add fragrance to your home! With just one or two sections of each melt (depending on the size or how long you want to burn a specific fragrance for), an entire area can be filled with the most heavenly scent. Check out our wax melts range.

What are the wax melts made from?

Our wax melts are made from 100% soy wax, which is plant-based, sustainable, and toxin-free. We also use phthalate, PEG, and silicone free colours and fragrance oils in our wax melt mixtures. Some of our wax melts (Eden, Sarkin Salama, Love Note) contain botanical components, meaning that they contain flowers or leaves. We're working on growing and drying our own botanicals for our wax melts, so that we can be directly involved in the process!

Accessories

How do I use the wax melter?

Our wax melter comes with two sections. You will need to place a tea-light (these can be purchased at any home goods store or online) in the bottom dish, and then add 1 or 2 pieces of one of our wax melts to the top dish (we recommend using 2-4 squares of our Secret Place melts, and not a full bar at a go). Light the tealight with our electric lighter, and enjoy!

How do I use the electric lighter?

Our lighters are a flameless and rechargeable alternative to traditional lighters. No gas refills or running out here; just charge your lighter with the USB cable that is included, slide the safety tab up, press the "on" button, and you’re good to go.

What is the point of a wick trimmer? Can't I use regular scissors?

We asked ourselves the same question until we realised how vital a wick trimmer is to the health of a candle! It is very important to trim your wick after every burn to decrease sooting and other candle issues. Our wick trimmer is designed to be at an angle that is perfect for cutting wicks, going way deeper than a regular pair of scissors would. This allows you to enjoy your candle for longer.
